The Po'Boys Brass Band will be performing this Saturday, June 18th at 7:15 and 9:15 at the Xerox Rochester International Jazz Festival. We'll be performing on the FREE "Jazz Street Stage" (Gibbs and Main - in front of the Eastman School of Music).

The Po'Boys Brass Band is a New Orleans-inspired funk/rock band. I play the sousaphone and we've got three trombones, guitar, keys, and drums (we all do some vocals, from time to time).

The festival is huge this year, check out the other artists here: http://www.rochesterjazz.com/

On a less tuba-related note, I'll be directing the New Horizons Big Band on Wednesday the 15th at 7:15 on the same free "Jazz St. Stage." This is an all retiree big band with some great players - we've even got a tuba doubling the bass, so I guess it's relevant to the TubeNet!

We had a great time at the Jazz Festival last night. . . I just wanted to share this tuba-heavy review: http://www.rochestercitynewspaper.com/m ... rass-Band/
It's either the best compliment or the worst insult: I would wager that if someone was listening to tonight's concert with their eyes closed, they probably wouldn't be able to notice that it was a tuba and not a bass playing. But I'm sure they could tell it was much more awesome than your average bass playing. Fwapping a string is one thing, but jumping up and down for an hour playing sousaphone is another.
