If you have bought tickets for this event you should check with the CSO ticket office. This is info for the Friday, May 18 concert.
The City of Chicago will be hosting the G8 and NATO summits in May 2012. The Chicago Symphony Orchestra has learned that there may be major disruptions in the Loop between May 18 and 22 due to extensive security measures, increased congestion and the possibility of road closures. As of January 17, 2012, schedule changes have been made so that our patrons are not commuting to Symphony Center during these potentially significant disruptions.
This concert has been rescheduled for Tuesday, May 15, 1:30 p.m. at Symphony Center.

For one of Gene's performances in May, or whenever you're at Orchestra Hall or Millennium Park, please come and say hi at the store where I work. It's only 2 blocks south of Symphony Center and virtually across the street from Grant Park.
My new position as Manager of Sales for PianoForte Chicago, Inc. begins on this Tuesday, March 6. Our showroom is in the historic Fine Arts Building, where Arnold Jacobs and so many other great teachers had and still have their studios, rehearsal halls, etc. One of its charms is that it's the last building in Chicago with a hand-operated elevator. This building also houses the area's best selection of classical sheet music for sale, Performers Music. They actually have a section of tuba solo and ensemble printed music through which you can browse!
A fringe benefit of my position may be (I'll test this only after my 90-day probationary period has expired successfully) that while our piano showroom is on the first floor, our intimate Recital Hall is up on the 8th floor. What a great place it would be to practice tuba after the piano showroom has closed for the day!
It's exciting to be working for a company whose not-for-profit sister organization, PianoForte Foundation, sponsors and supports live music performance in our Recital Hall, at WFMT, and elsewhere in the Chicago area.
I do not know what our hours will be during the G8 and NATO summit. Something else to discuss with my new employer...

I knew that my tickets for the 5/19 performance were moved to 5/12....but I just noticed that the repertoire had changed as well....no Vaughn WIlliams...that was the whole point of seeing the CSO!
Well, I emailed and asked if I could exchange the tickets.....but I bet the answer will be no...grrrrr

I also had purchased tickets for Gene's Saturday night performance of the VW Concerto. (10 total tickets- can you say 'weekend in the Windy City'?)- take the train and everything!
I emailed Customer service at the CSO, and they were very understanding, and I was refunded the full purchase price. They understand that it's a situation that is out of their control, and have rescheduled Gene as best they could. But I still want to see Gene and the CSO play, but that particular night didn't work.

Well here is hoping that they can help me out then! I always hope that organizations like this can help their patrons, but so many just seem to say...."hey too bad...so sad"...because they can. It's good to know that the CSO understands that their whole reason for survival is making sure their audience is happy. There is a finite supply of CSO patrons unlike say an amusement park or movie theater.LJV wrote:We did the same thing. The CSO organization refunded everything. We had a block of tickets and were bring a little gang of HS and college folk.
I've always wanted to go see more CSO performances, but I am a weird musician...I like playing music...but I get bored watching it. I work right next to the Chicago Opera and only a few blocks (maybe 8 ) from Symphony Center.....yet I don't go...I should...but I don't
