UW Milwaukee Wind Ensemble

Thursday, October 25, 3:00 - 3:40, Madison Ballroom, Monona Terrace
The UW-Milwaukee Wind Ensemble stresses the single performer concept, utilizing only players needed for a given piece, thus providing the greatest exposure for the exceptional musician. The Wind Ensemble recently appeared at the 2012 North Central Divisional Conference of the College Band Directors National Association (CBDNA). In March of 2013, the Wind Ensemble will perform for the National CBDNA Conference in Greensboro, North Carolina (one of only eight ensembles selected). The Wind Ensemble has also appeared at the 1981 National M.E.N.C. Conference in Minneapolis, Minnesota; the 1983 National Conference of CBDNA in Atlanta, Georgia; the 1991 and 1994 North Central Divisional Conferences of CBDNA; and for the Wisconsin Music Educators Conference in 1981, 1984, 1987, 1988, 1990, 1993, 1994, 1999, 2001 and 2004 and 2012. The Wind Ensemble and Symphony Band also appeared in a joint concert for the Ninth Annual Convention of the Australian Band and Orchestra Associationís Conference in Melbourne, Australia in 1996.
John Climer is Director of Bands at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. As a guest conductor and clinician, Climer has led ensembles at numerous festivals, universities, and concert venues including the Eastman School of Music, the Midwest Band and Orchestra Clinic, the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, the Rocky Mountain Music Festival among others. He is the recipient School of Music Distinguished Teaching Award (Ohio University) the College of Fine Arts Outstanding Teacher Award (Ohio University), and the 2007 Outstanding Music Educator Alumni Award (University of Akron).
