Posted: Thu Nov 15, 2012 5:29 pm
I didn't see a topic so I'll make the first entry:
Evansville, Indiana
DATE: Saturday, December 15th (registration, rehearsal and performance)
REGISTRATION: 2:00 pm, University of Evansville band room, #110, Krannert Fine Arts Building, on Rotherwood Ave. between Walnut St. and Lincoln Ave.
REHEARSAL: 2:30 pm, U of E band room
PERFORMANCE: 4:00 pm, Barnes & Noble Booksellers, second floor, 624 S. Green River Rd. @ Lincoln Ave.
CONDUCTOR: Dr. Kenneth Steinsultz, DMA, Director of Bands and Low Brass Instructor, University of Evansville
DURATION: 50 minutes
ATTIRE: Something festive, reflecting colors of the season. Santa hats and/or suits are welcome.
WHAT TO BRING: 1) A strong embouchure. The arrangements do not offer many measures of rest. Additionally, the tessitura is higher than we usually encounter. Please work to build embouchure strength, between now and December 15th.
2) TubaChristmas music books, from prior years.
3) Any type of music stand, or lyre. The U of E music stands will not be traveling to Barnes & Noble. Chairs WILL be provided, at both locations. Barnes & Noble has both an escalator and elevator.
4) Horn. If you have a unique instrument in the tuba-euphonium family (i.e. helicon, double-bell euphonium, ophecleide, serpent), the audience would enjoy seeing it and hearing it.
COSTS INVOLVED: A $3 registration fee goes to the Harvey Phillips Foundation, Inc., of Bloomington, IN That amount helps to offset the cost of the website, mailings, etc. The music books are available in both bass and treble clefs and are reusable, year after year. The 8.5" X 11" books are $10. Smaller books are $6. NO PART of player costs are retained by the conductor, coordinator, the University of Evansville, or Barnes & Noble.
TubaChristmas concerts will be presented, this year, in 250 locations. Most will be held in North America, with some in Europe and Japan. In order to fully understand this tradition, which started at Indiana University in 1974, please take a few minutes to look at http://www.tubachristmas.com" target="_blank. The concerts have been held in Evansville, since 1986.
Also, please patronize our host business. Having a brick and mortar book store is a benefit to the community. Barnes & Noble has made us feel welcome, for several years.
