Low-Fi live clip from the last TL gig. Hang on through the spacey loopy stuff to get to the groovy stuff. Tony Barba on tenor sax rips the stage apart! The amazing Israeli Bone Goddess Reut Regev Joins us too! Bollinger and Trail head up the beats, and Ben Stivers makes mad science on the keys. And the lowage is yours truly.

THREE completes initial run of Lyubo to sellout crowds! The tuba trio THREE completed the run of the theater show Lyubo which featured the low-note triad as musical providers for this theatrical experience in SoHo in NYC. The show ended on a hi (or low, however you wanna look at it) note with sell out crowds.

TUBA LOVE the movie! TL is being featured in an upcoming film short.
It is a freaky horror flick produced by John Kutinsky of Image Lost Films --about the famous Apocalypse Lounge in NYC. It starts filming in March -- so stay the hell tuned!!

TOMORROW NIGHT! (Sunday)

TUBA LOVE will hit in Providence, RI

Bring your boogeying shoes -- cuz I've got members of the great band Booty Juice playing with me (they also play often with Jennifer Hartswick, for all you Phishy phans)

401-831-9327
www.as220.org

$6, all ages

AND

The next NYC TUBA LOVE show has been moved ahead one week and is now on MARCH 6TH!!

TUBA LOVE will hit at 9pm -- so you can get to bed in time for Monday! That will be one muthafunkin groove happening!! I (and my manager) have curated the entire night -- and we have this band Red Headphone, which is an ALL CHICK funk/soul band, complete with a female DJ. Also will be appearing the Dub Nomads as well as Trizzo which features more members of Jennifer Hartswick's band.

Start that week off right -- come out Sunday, March 6th to Sin-e, in the lower east side, which is one of my more favorite clubs. It is a nice vibe with GREAT sound. Plus a block or two away is this great little restaraunt called GRILLED CHEESE which serves cheap GOURMET grilled cheese sandwiches that are awesome. That will be a rockin night. March 6th, 9pm.

Hey Joe,

I really dig the live track. Superhip!

What are you using to mic the horn? One picture looked like the mic was actually hanging inside the bell.

I also saw pedals and racked gear in the photos. Are you looping some of your tuba lines? I have been doing some interesting experiments using Logic plugins on the tuba. I wonder what kind of smooth techno tricks might me going on at a Tuba Love show.

Thanks MSM –

I use a mic that is drilled into my mouthpiece, with a pile of standard efx (stompboxes mostly) and a couple of amps. And yes, I do some loops too here and there when the mood hits… whatever is most fun/causes the most trouble at the moment… I try to just enhance the sound, not change it totally, while still keeping an element of a "tuba" sound… 8)

I got some semi-decent audio from the last coupla gigs… I’ll post those soon…

Sometime you ought to get out here for SXSW
I hope to at some point... TL did their first "road gig" last weekend heading out of NYC to Providence, RI. (for a while) I have had some plans to head down south for a jaunt. The band now has a manager (fortunately!) to take care of that stuff, so I hope to get that road stuff going later in the year. I hear good things about Austin, so I definitely plan to stop thru!

peace

SUNDAY SUNDAY SUNDAY

Post by tubajoe »

This Sunday (March 6th) is an extra special TUBA LOVE show in NYC!

I am very lucky to have some great musicians with me:

Joe Tomino - drums (from Dub Trio and Birth who has been called by the press "a whirling dervish virtuoso who simply must be heard to be believed")
Nate Wooley - trumpet (the press says: "He is known for his visibly spiritual immersion in the improvisational moment") www.natewooley.com
Tony Kieraldo - keys (Downbeat Magazine has called him "one of the most promising young jazz pianists")
Shawn Trail -- percussionist (great spiritual player -- trained in Ghana)
Tony Barba - sax (Downbeat Magazine said about his playing: "Take two parts James Brown, one part John Zorn, a dash of Dirty Dozen, and a splash of Sex Mob and you've got yourself A Fine Time") www.anthonybarba.com

PLUS special guests

at

Sin-e (a great club in Manhattan)
150 Attorney St - between Stanton and Houston (pronounced HOW-ston)
NYC

the show starts at 8pm, TL hits at 9pm, costs a measly 8 bux
