The ATLANTA CHAMBER MUSIC FESTIVAL is a three day intensive seminar for middle and high school musicians, including tuba and euphonium students. ACMF is open to rising 6th graders to graduated seniors who have been playing for at least one year. Exceptions will be considered on an individual basis.The primary focus is chamber ensembles coached by renowned professional musicians from the Atlanta area. In addition, the faculty will perform in a chamber recital open to all students. More advanced students will be selected by audition for the chamber orchestra. The grand finale is the student recital on Saturday evening, followed by a reception for students, families, and friends.

June 13: Application deadline (including $35 registration fee
June 20: Late registration deadline

June 20: Full tuition deadline (refundable before June 22)
June 20: Audition recording deadline (must be received by this date)
July 10-12: Festival dates @ Oglethorpe University

FINANCIAL AID:
Financial aid is available for students with financial need. Please fill out the Financial Aid Form at the bottom of the registration form to be considered for financial aid.

CHAMBER GROUPS & ORCHESTRA:
All students will be placed into chamber groups to be coached by our faculty based on recorded audition. We will also have a chamber orchestra for the most advanced students. All groups will perform in the Saturday evening concert.

PLACEMENT AUDITIONS:
All students are required to audition, by CD or digital recording. (Note: Auditions are used to help us place you in a group with students of similar abilities.)

Students should prepare one solo that demonstrates both technical and lyrical abilities. Students wishing to audition for orchestra should also prepare one or more of the required excerpts for his or her instrument.

Bernard H. Flythe, Tuba and Euphonium

Bernard H. Flythe joined the faculty at Kennesaw State University as Assistant Professor of Tuba and Euphonium in 2007. Prior to his appointment at Kennesaw State University, Mr. Flythe served for three years as Assistant Professor of Tuba and Euphonium at Austin Peay State University and served four years on the artist faculty at the Sewanee Summer Music Festival. He has also held faculty positions at the University of Georgia, the University of Toledo, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, the University of Michigan All State Program at Interlochen, the University of Michigan Summer Arts Institute, and the UNC-Greensboro Summer Music Camp.

As an orchestral tubist, Mr. Flythe has performed with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, and the Nashville Symphony. During the 1992-1993 season, he served as the acting principal tubist with the North Carolina Symphony. As a chamber musician, Mr. Flythe has performed with the Detroit Chamber Winds, the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra Brass Quintet, and the North Carolina Symphony Brass Quintet.

Mr. Flythe received a bachelor of music degree from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. He earned his master of music and his specialist in music degrees from The University of Michigan. Mr. Flythe’s principal tuba teachers include Fritz Kaenzig, Robert Leblanc, David Lewis, Wesley Jacobs, and Michael Sanders.

Euphonium students are also encouraged to apply. The following audition requirements will be posted on the website this afternoon:

Please play three major scales of your choice; select a solo or an etude of your choice.

Financial aid will be available for students who need assistance to attend the festival.
