Alison Balsom will perform a concerto, Songs of the Paradise Saloon, with the Philadelphia Orchestra on Dec. 11, 12 & 13. The concerto is based on themes from the opera The Inventor, and depicts an evening in a pub in Manhattan in which an international crowd sings bar songs from their native lands. Ms. Balsom will perform on a trumpet, flugelhorn, cornet and picc.
The remainder of the concert includes Symphonic Dances from West Side Story, Catfish Row from Porgy and Bess, and the Passacaglia from Peter Grimes.
