Well, it’s the middle of winter again, a time for huddling in the cold dark night, pondering mortality. Also, Groundhog Day: a thing that someone with too much time on his hands thought of once and that we’re now legally required to observe. The holiday proper is on February 2nd. This will be the day we all spend at home with our families with food, festivities and prayers to weather prognosticating rodents.

But the real celebration will take place on Saturday, January 31st, at the 20th Annual Yid Vicious Groundhog Day Klezmer Blowout Spectacular! At Mother Fool’s Place of Music and Coffee! Starting around eight PM! With the whole, extensive Yid Vicious family, plus members of their families, and possibly several well-wishers!

In 1996, the newly minted Yid Vicious decided that Groundhog Day could be improved. Critics scoffed. There was an outcry. “Who,” the editorial pages screamed, “WHO are these brash young upstarts who would presume to change the most perfect day of celebration bestowed upon man by some guy long ago?” But Yid Vicious envisioned a Groundhog Day with all the pageantry of days of yore, but with freylekhs instead of terrifying small animals with unwanted attention. And now, all these years later, the tradition endures. Hopefully you’ll join us!
