“Melodic 20th-Century Music For Brass”

You will leave this recital of 20th-century brass music with your head full of hummable tunes. DePauw University faculty member Robert Danforth, principal horn of the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra, is joined by colleague Anthony Kniffen, the ISO’s principal tuba, on this varied program of brass music of classical composers Shostakovich and Vaughan Williams, Hollywood film composer Bruce Broughton, and popular song composer Alec Wilder, among others. Anthony Kniffen, principal tuba of the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra since 1997, has also performed with the Chicago, Saint Louis, Minnesota, Cincinnati, Detroit orchestras and has toured the United States with Summit Brass. He has appeared as soloist with the Honolulu and Indianapolis Symphony Orchestras and at regional and international tuba conferences. Kniffen is the ‘play-along’ tubist on a Hal Leonard’s “Essential Elements 2000,” and has filled in sabbaticals for his friend and mentor, Dan Perantoni, at his alma mater Indiana University. General admission: $5 Tickets for seniors, children and all students are free.
