We're pleased to invite everyone to the Dec 6 concert of the Foothill Symphonic Winds in Palo Alto, Ca.
We're playing a range of great pieces (see full listing at http://fswinds.org" target="_blank" target="_blank) but tuba fans will especially appreciate the key tuba solos in the piece "Promising Skies," by Robert W. Smith, a piece commissioned by the United States Marine Corps Band, New Orleans upon the 5th anniversary of Hurricane Katrina. It starts out with a jazzy trumpet solo and then the trombones and the full band join in and describe the scene in New Orleans; then the storm approaches, and the hurricane hits the city; and the jazzy theme returns to tell us the city will rebuild. The tuba has a few great solos in that piece that "make the moment."
