Long Island: 36th Annual Day of Tuba and Euphonium

Post by LISherm »

It’s time for the Suffolk County (NY) Music Educators Association's 36th Annual Day of Tuba and Euphonium on Friday, October 28 at Smithtown High School East.

This year’s guest artists are Mike Milnarik, Tubist and Sanae Kanda, Pianist-Composer. In addition to an afternoon clinic and leading performances by the All-County High School Tuba-Euphonium Ensemble, Mike and Sanae will perform an evening recital featuring Sanae’s compositions AND we’ll celebrate the release of their new CD, “Distant Friends”.

2-300 High School, Middle School and Elementary School participants are expected, plus plenty of teachers, professionals and casual adult players.

Rehearsals and clinics begin at 3:30 pm.

The free concert begins at 6:45 pm featuring Sunnyland Jazz Band with Bob Barta, John Klumpp, Art Hovey and Bob Hovey http://sunnylandjazz.com/; Mike Milnarik and Sanae Kanda in recital http://www.milnarik.com and http://www.sanaekanda.com/;Long Island Tuba Quartet with Michael Canipe, Don Sherman, Jeff Furman, Zach deVries plus Tim Eckstrum and Kevin Mecchella http://longislandtubaquartet.com/, High School All-County Ensemble, a Faculty Ensemble and the Massed Ensemble Finale.

Matt Walters
will be there from Dillon Music with a display, and the famous door prize raffle will feature all kinds of amazing merchandise. And, as this year’s festival is just before Halloween, participants are encouraged to come in costume and/or decorate their instruments. Prizes will be awarded!
