Hello Tubenet,

For those in Washington State looking for something to do this coming Monday and Tuesday, the Central Washington University tuba-euphonium studio is very pleased to be hosting Dr. Matthew Shipes, Clinical Assistant Professor of Tuba and Euphonium at the University of Idaho and formerly a euphoniumist and tubist with the United States Air Force Band, for a two-day residency on campus. Dr. Shipes will be working with the CWU tuba and euphonium students in lessons and a masterclass, as well as performing in recital. If you are free and available at either of the times listed below, it would be will worth the trip to see Dr. Shipes perform and teach:

Recital - Monday, February 13th 2017 @ 7PM - Recital Hall, McIntyre Music Building

Masterclass - Tuesday, February 14th 2017 @ 1-3PM - Recital Hall, McIntyre Music Building

Dr. Shipes' biography is provided below; this is certain to be a wonderful residency for the CWU tuba-euph studio, and I would strongly encourage you to attend if you are available.

Dr. Matthew Shipes is the Clinical Assistant Professor of Tuba and Euphonium at the University of Idaho where he teaches the tuba-euphonium studio, conducts the tuba-euphonium ensemble, and also teaches aural skills and music appreciation courses. He was previously the low-brass instructor at Shepherd University in West Virginia, and the euphonium instructor at Towson University in Maryland. He also served as a euphoniumist and tubist with The United States Air Force Band in Washington DC. Prior to his work in the DC area he was the instructor of tuba and euphonium at Georgia College & State University.

Shipes received a Bachelor of Music Education degree from Baylor University, a Master of Music degree in euphonium performance from the University of Arkansas, as well as a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in tuba performance with a minor in trombone performance from the University of Georgia.

Matt has had the opportunity to perform for President Obama and several foreign leaders, for hundreds of ceremonies at Arlington National Cemetery, as well as on a national tour with the USAF Band. In addition to winning and being a finalist for several international and national competitions on tuba, euphonium, and trombone, he has appeared as a guest artist and given world-premiere performances at events like the US Army Band’s Tuba-Euphonium Workshop, and the International Tuba Euphonium Conference. Shipes is also a faculty member with the Southeast Tuba Euphonium Workshop, a summer course for collegiate tuba and euphonium students.
