at George Mason, starting on Thursday.

There is a concert every day (Thurs- Sun) and you can also see some
great players perform during the competitions (open to public). See
"Rehearsal and Performance Times" to find out who and where.

And of course you can offload some $$ with the vendors!

There was a fourth player not listed in the program who finished second, but don't recall his name. Final posting for this category was:

Was a great event. My son would have disagreed if I had let him leave immeadiately after his competition. He's only played for 2 years and then untutored (outside of school). I blew it big time when I missed seeing that we (read I) had to get him his own music. As a result he only had the piece for 5 days (counting the rehersal and competition) and with school ending, his teacher could only assist him for an hour.
All the other students has at least 3 years and all had been tutored for at least 2 years. Only spoke with Mr. Spack a little bit, but we did spend a fair ammount of time with the Ross's. Megans' father plays in the USAF band....I have no musical talents myself...
Bottom line, we kept Michael there through the site reading, where he was the only student tuba player. He was certian that they would toss him from the stage. By the end of the 1 1/2 hour of playing he was pumped up again and ready to play the tuba for the rest of his life. Great bunch of guys and gals up there on stage including many a virtuoso performer.
Next year will ensure we equip him better.
Still looking for a tutor to teach him to play music vice notes.

We are looking into Tuba Christmas in the DC area this year. Hearing 40 tubas and euphoniums playing Sousa Marches, Jass/Blues, and boradway pieces was just too cool.
