Long Island Low Brass: 38th Annual Day of Tuba and Euphonium

Post by LISherm »

It’s time for the Suffolk County (NY) Music Educators Association's 38th Annual Day of Tuba and Euphonium on Friday, November 2 at Central Islip High School.

This year’s guest artist is Penn State/Peabody’s Velvet Brown. In addition to presenting an afternoon clinic and leading performances by the All-County High School Tuba-Euphonium Ensemble and Faculty Ensemble, Velvet will perform a solo recital as part of the gala evening concert.

2-300 High School, Middle School and Elementary School participants are expected, plus plenty of teachers, professionals and casual adult players.

Rehearsals and clinics begin at 3:30 pm.

The free concert begins at 6:45 pm featuring Sunnyland Jazz Band with Bob Barta, John Klumpp, Art Hovey and Bob Hovey http://sunnylandjazz.com/; Velvet Brown http://www.velvetuba.com/; Long Island Tuba Quartet with Michael Canipe, Don Sherman, Jeff Furman, and Zach deVries plus guests Kevin Mecchella and Tim Eckstrum http://longislandtubaquartet.com/, High School All-County Ensemble, a Faculty Ensemble and the Massed Ensemble Finale.

Matt Walters will be there from Dillon Music with a display, and the famous door prize raffle will feature all kinds of amazing merchandise.
Information, registration, directions at: https://www.scmea.org/tubaday… or contact Don Sherman or Tim Eckstrum:

I've heard of this event. I highly encourage any NYC / LI tubists and euphonium players to attend.
