Stars and Shipes 2021

Post by mshipes »

Hi Everyone,

I'm happy to announce that the Stars and Shipes Mock-Band E-Competition is back for 2021!

This year we are including both a euphonium competition AND a tuba competition! Stars and Shipes is a mock-military band competition aimed to prepare participants to audition for premier band positions, or to just improve at performing and music-making in general. We have several Star judges providing feedback for competitors:
  • David Zerkel - The University of Michigan
  • Simon Wildman - The United States Marine Band - The President's Own
  • Alison Mahovsky - The United States Air Force Band
  • Hiram Diaz - The United States Marine Band - The President's Own
  • Matthew Shipes - The University of Georgia
Another exciting addition this year is the Stars and Shipes Masterclass Series. Registration for the competition (either instrument) grants you access to SIX masterclasses starting June 28. Links to the classes will be shared through e-mail.

There are three rounds of competition, and the preliminary video is due by the end of the day July 12.

Also, since this competition is completely online, anyone can participate without leaving their homes!

Information about prizes is forthcoming.

Hi Everyone!

I wanted to share a few updates:

I'm pleased to announce prizes for first and second place of $250 and $150 respectively. Thank you to S.E. Shires Company and Eastman Music for their generous support of our first prizes. In addition, all three winners will receive a free private lesson with one of our star judges. Regardless of placement, all participants will receive written feedback from all three judges in their respective competition, as well as the option of live video feedback.

Our masterclass series begins June 28, and is open to everyone who registers for the competition. Please follow the links above for more information. Thank you!
