ad bumping

Postby bloke » Mon Oct 14, 2019 7:21 pm

How about this:

No ad bumping without a 5% minimum price reduction...(??)

Either one blatant bump or three fake questions asked by a shill friend equal a “bump”...

...eh?

Is your bump a handmade bump or a production bump?

Here's the third b.s./shill bumping post, so the first blatant bump + these = 10% off.

Talkbass.com , the bass guitar players' forum, has a mechanism that only allows a person to bump his/her ad(s) every 24 hours, and you can bump your thread(s) without having to make the "bump" post, thus saving bandwidth, and not letting anybody know how many times a thread has been bumped.

I like it. Every 24 hours though? I'm thinking once per week (or less) would be more appropriate.

Those are great suggestions, but I still think that a price reduction should be a requirement as well.

What is it that Walter Brennan used to say weekly in The Guns of Will Sonnett…?? oh yeah:

My stuff (well...other than a currently-for-sale goofy-named one-piece stainless steel mouthpiece that I do not want nor need:  http://forums.chisham.com/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=93826) typically sells in a very few days for asking price. It’s simply a matter of being realistic, yes?

I'm not so sure about that. In some instances, if a somewhat unique item is offered for sale, it may take some time for just the right buyer to see the ad. That item might well be worth the asking price but to only a limited number of buyers. It might sometimes take a few bumps for that right buyer to come along. Should the seller be forced to sell the 'unique' item at less than its value to the 'right buyer'? I don't think so.

' recently sold a unique (and not cheap) instrument here (in one day) for more-than-asking w/no bumping.

formula: pricing $2200 things at $2200 (not $3800), pricing $4500 things at $4500 (not $5600), pricing $6800 things at $6800 (not $8400), pricing $12,000 things at $12,000 (not $18,000), etc.

If asking a used/production item for 90% of advertised-new, three years of daily bumping will only accomplish an added post count to TubeNet. Typically, the maximum retail selling price of a really nice used current-production instrument hovers at-or-below wholesale dealer cost. :|

bloke "avoiding 'very unique', as it is redundant, yes?"

Is a goosebump the same thing as a "bump"?
(or is one even required to have an actual goose?)

You got lucky. The 'right' buyer saw your instrument on the first day. Doesn't always happen that way.

My personal experience is that this is routine, and is due to "pricing", rather than "luck".
I do see quite a few used production instruments (priced close to new/big-box pricing) that do seem to languish.
