You guys still don't understand how adsense works. The cache it is referring to on on YOUR computer not the tubenet website's computer. A easy way to see how it works, is go to google and search some product. I did it for spanx ( a type of women's figure controlling undergarment ) because I saw an article about and didn't have any idea what the heck it was. The next thing I know I was seeing ads on every site I visited that had ad sense on it, I saw ads for spanx undergarments. Even on THIS VERY SITE.

The key thing here is, it is using cached info on YOUR computer to offer up ads that YOU might be interested in. So if you are seeing ads that are offensive, it is because the ad sense engine found keys words in YOUR cache that said they would be good ads to run. I not saying that you search for offensive stuff ( I'm not ruling it out either ) but you did at some point search using words that are now cached on you computer that the ad sense engine is using to try and market directly to YOU. It has NOTHING to do with the content on this site. All you have to do is clear the cache in YOUR browser and they offensive ads "should" go away. That all depends on the algorithm used by the ad sense engine. Clear your cookies also.

The reason it has started showing up on here as of late, is probably as simple as those ads weren't on ad sense until recently.

All that being said, Sean probably could dictate the types of ads that are allowed on this site.

These ads (for the tenth time now) were not appearing based on MY computer. They were appearing on computers all over MISSISSIPPI. Hello? They were about consensual sex between chidden and adults. They cost me a student and saw a parent bashing my reputation because they were visible on her very locked down computer. They were visible all over computers in this geographical region of the US. They were a serious problem and many of us have sworn off of recommending this site to minors because of this.

I was told this weekend that Tubenet is a now a blocked site at two local-to-me colleges because of the advertising content it allows. The students went to the Admins to explain that it was just a tuba/music site. I understand that in both cases, the requests to allow access to TubeNet was denied.

I did know that it couldn't be accessed in local school districts' networks already, but their filters are usually pretty well clamped down.

It's the HOSTS files not the Cache that the adsense reads on your computer. It seems like it hasn't used cache in a couple years. Otherwise, Adsense is Context Driven. The point I made last time is that there are few tuba advertisers out there. (there are only 2-3) Thus, with their system google goes to the closest things it can find ads for. Sadly, those are dating sites. Probably because words like "Dating" "Girls", etc are more common on this page than other keywords associated with other ads. Ultimately, there is not much Sean can do....

Adsense does use the IP to determine your location. I see ads for Canadian dating sites occasionally when I use my iPod touch. (Though nothing as bad as The Elephant describes) Because I have a HOSTS file enabled on my computer, I don't see any sketchy ads.

Wade, my advice for you is that you stop recommending this board to students, and recommend David Werden's. I have never seen any ads there, the content is usually pretty good and several people on that board reference this one. I am sorry it cost you a student and your reputation, I still can't see how people how so not understanding when it comes to the internet....

I tend to believe Wade is correct. The issue here is the content WITHIN Tubenet. The language that is posted within the Tubenet threads is what is generating this advertising.

Individual user computers may have browsing data that contribute to the problem - but the problem exists independent of that.

Having said all of that, Tubenet is what it is. So don't recommend it to your minor students.

Remember, there is a post from bloke stating that he got the ads on a brand new computer if I remember correctly. Odds are it's as much internal than external. With that being said, Tubenet has long been a place I wouldn't recommend to minors. Sad, but true. Hell, there is very little that the web has to offer that I would recommend to minors.

You have not read any of this either. These were appearing on ALL computers (that I could either play with or that I could request a friend check for me( in central Mississippi for a period of time. Do not jump in if you have not been following this from the beginning. This was a problem between the Management and me. I complained about these ads, who many do not seem to even be bothered by, some time back. It WAS a TubeNet problem. It SEEMS to be cleared up, or the Google people saw that they were posting ads that encourages sexual intercourse between children and adults. Is it NOT my viewing, thanks very much, and it is NOT appreciated that you and others imply otherwise. Did you not read that her computer is very locked down? Did you not read that these were getting through school security systems? Did you not read that this woman blamed me of them, accusing me of trying to hit on her 14 year old daughter because I suggested that she come here to look at for sale items, that mama thought that I was trying to get her daughter to read ads that condone sex between adults and children because she read them HERE on TubeNet?
