Replying to Personal Messages?

I sent a PM to a recent poster, because my reply touched on matters best kept in private.

My PM came through fine, but my name was thrown off the address line repeatedly, when he tried to answer my PM.

Fortunately he found an alternative route to reach me, and we are now communicating all fine via another medium.

I have looked through my settings, and I found no parameter indicating that I should have blocked this TubeNetter. I don’t remember having communicated directly before.

What should I look for in my settings?
