Prices required for trades?

There was a post here earlier which has since been deleted...
But am I correct in remembering that a price was required when proposing a trade?
I never would have thought that was a requirement. Aren't trades about looking for two people who want each other's stuff? That's up to them to do their homework and decide if it's an even trade.
In those cases, I just assume the price is $100 billion, but open to consider offers.
