A tuba mouthpiece which may not be familiar to many tuba players, but one of the very best contrabass tuba/bass mouthpieces ever made is the CHIEF, designed for the legendary John “The Chief” Kuhn who played in Sousa's Band.

Wessex have now precisely reproduced the original Chief mouthpiece made in 1920's - to make available again to modern tuba/bass players.

We have found the mouthpiece provides a BBb tuba with warm, broad tone, while still maintaining good focus. It is ideal for the Wessex Luzern, Michigan, Prague and Excelsior tuba. We know it also enhances a Besson Sovereign BBb - and we are sure will work well with many other larger tubas.
