Here is preview of prototype for the new Wessex exclusive Bb Ophicleide which is a faithful replica of 19th century Gautrot ophicleide without the clanky key action of the original. The factory really have done a wonderful job of making it.

The prototype was last week tried by UK professional ophicleide player, Tony George who made a glorious sound on it (I never appreciated an ophicleide could sound so good). He declared it plays very well with just one key (the 11th) to be moved to play fully in tune which we will implement for the production models. He liked it so much, he is to use professionally for concert in London in May.

We are still finalising price which we will announce and start taking orders later. Delivery of first batch should be in about 4 months. We plan to sell raw brass (like prototype), lacquered and silver-plated.

We will also start selling ophicleide cases for those with period instruments they wish to protect.

For those visiting Frankfurt Musikmesse, the ophicleide is on show and available to try. We will also have at ITEC in May.
