(Kidding. Sort of.)

We were going to make if the quinticlave had sold well, but that has never taken off - so adding more to the ophicleide range was abandoned. Shame as it would have been fun to have had a contrabass ophicleide - but Wessex has to be run as a profitable business, and not just to produce fun horns

As someone interested in baroque music, I would love to see a Wessex serpent come out!

What would I like? I’d like to find someone or be put in touch with someone who has a Luzern and someone who has an XL who is within a day’s drive so I could test them out. :-)

Doc, Wessex will have an exhibit at the Texas Bandmasters Association Convention in San Antonio July 27-28.

Thanks, Steve. Unfortunately, I will be out of state that week. Just my luck! I’ll keep trying.

Just curious:

Why is the 4 valve BBb helicon cheaper than the 3 valve sousaphone?

Why is the 4 valve BBb helicon lighter than the 3 valve sousaphone?

I’m guessing the bell. On both accounts.
But I’m interested in hearing what Jonathan has to say.

Production costs. More work to make sousaphone bell and a lot more silver required to plate

A sousaphone bell is much heavier than a helicon bell - a lot more metal than the extra tubing for 4th valve

Any word on a piston valve F tuba? I would love to see a piston version of the Berg with the fifth rotor.

There are two Wessex piston F tubas under development, expected out 2019 - so look out for announcements.

One will be compensated, based on the British F tuba. The second will be entirely new design being developed in collaboration with top American pro and will be all handmade like the Chicago CC tubas.
