a really great kid, and supportive parents.
Thanks ~so~ much for choosing John Packer.
This is the 11" bell and less-costly compensating version... a great instrument... very reminiscent of the classic "Besson" and B&H "Imperial" euphoniums.
She's so happy, (and so spoiled)
Thanks for the great deal Joe, we went back and forth between that horn and the jinbao, but the tone of this one was so much warmer and rich, we upped our budget
Here's something interesting. After getting a PM from another tubenet member who just bought one of these, I measured the bell. 11.8 inches, which is far enough larger than 11 that I wonder why they list them as a flat 11?
I don't care one way or the other, I still love the horn, but it is interesting that the bell is larger than listed
I'm wondering if there has been an unadvertised change in the 274.
me...?? I don't hear much difference between bells spun on (basically) the same mandrels with a-little-more or a-little-less pancake past the actual end of the expansion.
ex: They put some additional pancake on the Meinl-Weston 5450 bell a few years ago... I'm not the least interested in swapping bells.
I just thought it was interesting. Not complaining at all.
Makes we wonder what the actual measurement is on the 374s, because by sight, it seemed like a larger bell
What he said.
There were 2 horns I liked at the army workshop: the XO and the Eastman. I was trying to stay below $2000 so neither horn was in my range. I was going to save up a bit for the Eastman until "58Mark" purchased a John Packer JP274 for his daughter and I read about the instrument in a post Joe started in 2015:
I bought one, and it is as good as the Eastman, IMHO, at less than half the price (retail).
They keep changing things up a little bit here and there, and I don't keep up with every change. They've been moving some models up to molded cases, and I can't ever keep track of which ones for which they've upgraded the cases, and which ones they have not… just another example.
The bell diameter thing… probably a similar situation.
This is the FREE JP bonus material all the kids are raving about, Mark.
I would not mind having one of these horns. I need to do some saving up, I guess...
If these cases are anything like the Eastman cases, I may have to get one. The Eastman case I saw had wheels on it like spinner luggage. The little girl I saw leaving with it seemed to have no problem pushing it around.
