He had ordered a Wiseman case (which he now possesses), but it did not arrive in time for that trip, so off it went in an MTS. He auditioned in St. Louis with a folded-over bell and a first valve that was hanging unpredictably.

I just don't see any case (regardless of manufacturer claims) being airline-proof, considering the types of abuse to which airlines subject tubas in cases. Though my services are not really in demand outside of this area, I'm not really interested in flying with my Walt Johnson cases. If they didn't manage to destroy the instruments, they would surely at least destroy the cases, and today's Wiseman cases cost as much (inflation factored in) as the Walt Johnson cases did when they were still in production.

I encouraged him to consider renting a car and driving (as most of his trips are 1200 miles max, and the majority are half that far or less).
A 600 mile driving trip vs. a 600 mile airline trip both consume a full (pro'lly 9 - 10 hour) day...and - with the rental car - the ground transportation is already at the ready upon arrival at the final destination. Whether the TNFJ agrees with my advice, I believe that's his plan for the future. There's a fairly-newly-blokePlace-installed genuine "Symphonie" bell (which he found) now installed on his F tuba. I believe he'd like this one to stay crease-free.

Joe is correct! I drive and wont fly in the continental USA
