Pricing Increase due to Tariffs

Postby MackBrass » Fri Aug 02, 2019 4:31 pm

Well we got the call today and it is now official that the new tariffs will be in effect on all musical instruments coming from China. Starting September 1st, musical instruments arriving from China will see an additional tax rate increase of 10% on top of the regular tax rate.

In anticipation of a tax increase we have loaded up on orders to arrive prior to Sept so our current stock will not see a price increase until that inventory has been sold out. New pricing for all Mack Brass instruments will be determined at a later date and we will continue to have to best pricing available.

As tariffs are added, the yuan continues to slide, yes?

I'm pretty sure I heard that seven of them can now be bought for a buck.

Thanks for the link, but it seems to cut off well before any current tariff - and tariff-talk - relevance.

Here is one that, arguably, is more relevant. Yuan have become less and less expensive since tariff talks and tariffs have begun:

If the Yuan is devalued, the products one buys there are less expensive.

Wouldn’t the tariff offset the devaluation making the products imported here cost the same??

When China wises up and reforms it’s monetary policy, will the prices go back down??

That's a great question and the answer seems that they should be lowering the price of goods. I can tell you that for as long as we have been selling over the past 9 plus years we have never seen the price of our products go down. If anything, we have seen price increases but never a decrease. My only thought on this is maybe the bigger companies that have a lot more buying power may be able to negotiate pricing to offset the tariffs but so far I haven't seen it for our stuff.

For now we are sending the ZO 6/4 and maybe the 4/4 to BBC. Both of these models will knock your socks off and the 4/4 CC is about the best 4/4 CC tuba I have ever played. This horn is getting me excited enough to practice again and even take one more audition.

Tom's pricing - regardless - is always competitive, and his model selection is becoming more interesting.

Take a little trip then you can try about 10 or 12 different models we have now.

If I read the financials correctly tonight, the tariffs are going to be 15% now, not 10%.....

' funny how the last man standing has always produced the easiest-to-play-in-tune domestically-manufactured tubas. :|

Recently bought a second-hand EU1150-S. I am completely in love with this horn. My next tuba will be a Mack CC. Full stop.
