Pricing Increase due to Tariffs

Well we got the call today and it is now official that the new tariffs will be in effect on all musical instruments coming from China. Starting September 1st, musical instruments arriving from China will see an additional tax rate increase of 10% on top of the regular tax rate.

In anticipation of a tax increase we have loaded up on orders to arrive prior to Sept so our current stock will not see a price increase until that inventory has been sold out. New pricing for all Mack Brass instruments will be determined at a later date and we will continue to have to best pricing available.

If the Yuan is devalued, the products one buys there are less expensive.

Wouldn’t the tariff offset the devaluation making the products imported here cost the same??

When China wises up and reforms it’s monetary policy, will the prices go back down??

That's a great question and the answer seems that they should be lowering the price of goods. I can tell you that for as long as we have been selling over the past 9 plus years we have never seen the price of our products go down. If anything, we have seen price increases but never a decrease. My only thought on this is maybe the bigger companies that have a lot more buying power may be able to negotiate pricing to offset the tariffs but so far I haven't seen it for our stuff.

Good luck with the sale.

Is there a chance you will sending more models to Baltimore Brass??

For now we are sending the ZO 6/4 and maybe the 4/4 to BBC. Both of these models will knock your socks off and the 4/4 CC is about the best 4/4 CC tuba I have ever played. This horn is getting me excited enough to practice again and even take one more audition.

But, if you don’t send your BBbs up there, I’ll have to drive down there...

Take a little trip then you can try about 10 or 12 different models we have now.

If I read the financials correctly tonight, the tariffs are going to be 15% now, not 10%.....

Recently bought a second-hand EU1150-S. I am completely in love with this horn. My next tuba will be a Mack CC. Full stop.
