Where to get a big box?
I need to ship a Miraphone 186 CC to Washington state. Where are some places I can look for a box to ship it in? It will not be in a gig bag or a case. I already have the packing materials to place around the horn. Thanks!

I second the suggestion to buy from U-Haul. Also, double-box if you can, even if it means making a second, outside container from a mirror pack or other source of cardboard. Put an inflatable rubber ball in the bell to distribute forces from dropping the box.MikeMiller wrote:U-Haul has some very nice large boxes for about $10. I used one to ship a tuba cross country a few years ago and it arrived intact.

When I flew to Vietnam from Los Angeles in October, I took one of my tubas that didn't have a case onto the plane as checked baggage. I used an airconditioner box. Then I wrapped a bed comforter around the tuba. Since it was held together with packaging tape, I wasn't sure it would still be in one piece when I got to Saigon. It wasn't crushed in any way--United Airlines gave me about ten FRAGILE stickers to stick all over the box.
Then, when I got out of the airport and took a taxi home, the cab driver refused to put the box in his trunk and tried to put it in the front seat on the passenger's side. He squashed the box to make it fit through the car door!

I changed it, Joe.bloke wrote:For however long you plan to keep that thing pasted to your profile, maybe you could use this one instead and give my index finger a bit of a break:
