Recording of the Wilby anyone???

Post by The Impaler »

Yo, I'm prepping the Philip Wilby concerto for an upcoming recital, and was wondering if you homers had any recommendations for recordings. I'm sure Steve has a recording out there.....he's recorded everything, so I'll look it up. Anyone else out there who's put this puppy down???

Cale,

As far as I know, there are 4 recordings of the Wilby. Here they are:

Steven Mead - Oration w/ Brass Band
David Childs - Metamorphosis w/ Orchestra
Robert Childs - Premiere-Classical and Modern
Alexandre Gagnaux - Euphonium in Sight w/ Orchestra

Also, Karl Krause has a download of a live performance of the piece available here:

Steve's performance is typical Steve - awesome, but you might check out David Child's recording. The orchestral acc. is quite nice. Hope this helps.

Yes, Cale, the CD is excellent, both in production and what's on it!
