desperately seeking euphonium duets

Post by CrappyEuph »

Hi -

I am doing a joint recital with another euphonium player and we are looking for an uptempo, technically flashy duet with piano accompaniment to end our program. Here is the problem - we have already played a lot of the usual duets, including:

Two-Part Invention (Sparke)
Lokk from Green Island (Aargaard-Nilsen)
Concerto for two trumpets (Vivaldi)
Fantastic Fast-Finger Fandango (Fraser)
Arabesque (Turrin)
Deep Inside the Sacred Temple (Bizet, arr. Wilkinson)
The Window Opens To The Ocean (Censhu)
Believe Me If All Those Endearing Young Charms (Mantia, arr. Werden)

...so we'd prefer not to play any of those. Graham's Brillante was also recommended to us, but we felt that was too hard to learn in the time frame we're working with. I was hoping that someone might know of a flashy trombone/trumpet/bassoon duet that works well for two euphoniums.

If anyone has any ideas, I'd really love to hear them!

Jamie,

If you want the ultimate in flash-and-trash duets try the Rondo for Two Euphoniums by Derek Bourgeois. Looks rather difficult on the surface, but essentially exercises in F major.

Another duet is Timepiece by Norman Bearcroft. There is a piano reduction available in the Derek Kane book of solos. Basically variations on Grandfather's Clock. Flashy at times, but also has a beautful lyrical section in the middle. Not too tough on the mouth being that it would be your closer.

Here's three suggestions . Not really euphonium duets but they could be done as such .
> Cousins - Herbert L. Clark .... Trombone/Cornet Duet
> The Cascades - Clay Smith ... Trombone/Cornet Duet
> Cheerfulness - Ferdinand Gumbert ..Trombone/Cornet Duet

All very fast and flashy. Written specifically to show off the talents of the musicians.

Hope this helps .

I remember MA saying that she had written some horn duets... they might work, and you might want to check
Instead of talking to your plants, if you yelled at them would they still grow, but only to be troubled and insecure?

euphonium duets

I believe Ken(knuxie) has some, too. I haven't seen them, so I don't know if they are intended to be "flashy" or not.
