New tuba at Dillon's

Post by Alex F »

I logged on to the Dillon Music site and saw, on the front page, an announcement for the "unveiling" of the new MW "Howard Johnson" tuba, scheduled for this Saturday. This was discussed here some time last summer.

Maybe Matt or Jason can give us a little "inside" info.

New Breed, Old Breed! It doesn't matter so long as it's the Marine Breed!

Huh !?! New M-W tuba brand named "Howard Johnson"?

I expected this to be displayed or otherwise announced on the M-W website. The new horn mentioned there was named "Thor", and on the German version even that isn´t mentioned, at least not in their "Instruments"-lineup.

Is this just some kind of marketing-thing to launch SOME new model on the American market ?

Did anyone attend the MW "unveiling" at Dillon's yesterday? (That's Meinl-Weston, not Matt). Did anyone have a chance to play it?

Must have been one heck of a beer party after the demo. Looks like no one has recovered enough to talk about it.

Sorry about that . . . Having taken 8 Vicodin per day for the last ten days, with no end in sight, I'm not sure what I've seen or not seen. Excuse me . . . I need to feed the elephant in the living room.

Heck, I even had a dream that brassdad actually bought a tuba.

Hmmm...as it happens, I'll be driving through NJ on Saturday (and sleeping in Woodbridge Friday night). Looks like I'll have to drop by Dillon's on Saturday a.m.

quite the contrary, the horn will be priced quite reasonable (in terms of reality, not what some people think tubas "should" cost, not that i agree or disagree of course.)

Feh - I see that the unveiling is 3-5 and the fun really begins at.

Alas, by 3 I'll be at Ocean Grove, and by 6 I expect to be playing poker at the Trop in AC.

Oh, well.

In passing....when I visited the Dillon website, I was shocked to see that King is not listed. What did I miss?

Is the top action model supposed to appeal to band directors? The same folks who buy, say, Yamaha YBB-321s?

I can't imagine pitiching a top-action instrument in the US to anyone else.
