Hmmm...as it happens, I'll be driving through NJ on Saturday (and sleeping in Woodbridge Friday night). Looks like I'll have to drop by Dillon's on Saturday a.m.jlbreyer wrote:Don't know what you-all are getting your knickers in a knot for - the Website says Sat 4 March for the grand event.

quite the contrary, the horn will be priced quite reasonable (in terms of reality, not what some people think tubas "should" cost, not that i agree or disagree of course.)iiipopes wrote:Regardless of the color or flavor, you know it will cost quite a few CLAMS!

Alas, by 3 I'll be at Ocean Grove, and by 6 I expect to be playing poker at the Trop in AC.
Oh, well.
In passing....when I visited the Dillon website, I was shocked to see that King is not listed. What did I miss?

Chuck...... I am going to say that I "reading between the lines" plead the 5th on your comment. But being as thew price point should be the same for the different versions, I imagine we might be selling a few more front action horns.

I would think so, also. But it sounds as if the horn at the "unveiling" will be the top-action model. The $64,000 question will then be "Do the rotary/side action versions play as well as the top action model?"JayW wrote:Chuck...... Certainly, the ergonomics of a 4v top action horn spark lots of interest in tubists who, like me, are blind in their right eye. No matter how I hold or tilt a front action horn, reading music is almost impossible. Admittedly, there are probably not a lot of us in that category, so the fact that the top action horn may have wider appeal to band directors is great. Other than the Yammie 321 BBb, there are not many other options.
Matt's early comment on the HJ prototype horn was that it put out a lot of sound for a horn of that size (.669" bore, 17.2" bell). Time will tell if the production models bear this out. I certainly hope they do. I think MW should be commended for offering these flexible configurations to serve a variety of tuba tastes.

And that is indeed the $64,000 question..... one that i hope to be able to answer in the upcommoing months. For now, the top action version plays great. It has a very nimble feel while creating quite a focused sound for an instrument of its size (small 4/4) I know that for the front action piston they have made a new valve set ( it wont be the "big" valves found on their other piston horns.)Chuck(G) wrote:I would think so, also. Hey, Jason. It was really good talk with you and Matt. I appreciate both of you taking some time during your busy day to answer my questions.
I'm in New Jersey on business, about to start a training class. It was great to be able to swing by Dillon's for a little while, but I really wish I could be there on Saturday.

I'm guessing that pricing isn't officially announced; anyone have any inside-but-unofficial hint as to what ballpark the pricing will be on these (all configurations, if possible)?
Thanks. And if anyone wants to share what you know with TubeNet anonymously, shoot me a PM and I'll pass it along without attribution.

Joe, While not official (since we have yet to get a bill for them) all three configurations should be priced around $3800 (lacquer) $4200 (silver plate)Joe Baker wrote:I'm guessing that pricing isn't officially announced; anyone have any inside-but-unofficial hint as to what ballpark the pricing will be on these (all configurations, if possible)?

Again this is just a pre-delivery estimate.
