This looks like a great horn. Too bad it's a sousaphone.

You recon it's a 'mammoth'? If it is, a 4V would be a steal at that price.

Martin Sousaphone
It doesn't look like the same proportions as Dan's "Mammoth"...unless the silverplate makes an instrument photograph larger.
Lew, I know it's been discussed on this BBS before, but why wouldn't a vintage sousaphone be just as good an instrument as it's orchestral tuba counterpart?

Re: Martin Sousaphone
I think that this is too small to be a mammoth, especially with the 23" bell. It looks like the Martin equivalent of a Conn 40K.TubaTinker wrote:You recon it's a 'mammoth'? If it is, a 4V would be a steal at that price.
I think that this horn in particular would be a good concert tuba, however given the bias against BBb horns in orchestras today and the additional preference for upright bells it seems unlikely that it would be accepted for this use in either a band or orchestra.tubahed wrote:It doesn't look like the same proportions as Dan's "Mammoth"...unless the silverplate makes an instrument photograph larger.
