Malcom Arnold's Fantasy for Tuba

Post by fatemokid »

I was just wondering if someone could give me some practice tips for the middle section of the Fantasy for Tuba by Malcom Arnold. I have slowed the slurs down to half speed and can play them perfectly, but when I try to speed them up, I can't play them very well. Any tips would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Don't jump from half speed to full out . Increase tempo gradually from the speed you play it flawlessly. Use all the time you have available to slowly clean this up. Jump on the tough parts at least three or more times each practice session but don't let any problems dominate your life. Some things take longer to pound into your skull than others.

In addition to the good advice above, I would suggest looking for alternate fingerings. Sometimes they can really speed things up after you get used to them.

Like the posts above, speed up gradually and MAKE sure you are using a ton of air. The passages can bedifficult because, fingerings, air, etc. Try to figure what is giving you the problem and work on that area.

all of the above comments with slowly speeding up and alternate fingerings will really help ALOT. but dont neglect the other parts just for that one killer section, make sure you have that section that works up the the B natural and have that solid along with the rubato decending run those parts are just as important, good luck and have fun with it its a good peice
