is 1931. Although it has some overlap with the Charles Colin published Complete Bill Bell method book, I don't see any of the excerpts from this in the other book.

I have the Complete Bill Bell Method...saved it from a trash bin a few years back, and no...those excerpts are not in my version (which is why I asked about the date to begin with).

I do not own the Bill Bell "Foundations" book, only the "complete method" and discovered that mine does not have the excerpts in it.

Might be interesting to get a copy of the "Foundations" book and have a look at the band excerpts...someday...

A bit OT . . .

I have the "Foundantions" book (White cover w blue-green inset on front cover) and would like to get a comb binding on it. Has anyone done this? I'm afraid that there may not be enough room in the "binding-side" margins and some of the end material might be cut off. Any experiences with this?

I do a lot of comb binding where I work, for reports, charts, references, etc that will be used in a variety of contexts later. My advice is to photocopy each page on a copier that will let you enlarge & reduce, and position the image so it fits on the page with about 1/2 inch more to the left margin than is already there. (It's my understanding that if you own the original, and you make the copy only for your own personal use to conserve the original, it's OK.) Then you can comb bind the copy to your heart's content, and not worry about degradation of the original.

Over the past 35 or so years (actually - THOUGH I DO NOT BLAME HIM, AND HE IS THE VERY LEAST OF THE GUILTY! - beginning, perhaps with Francis McBeth) it has been very sad to see the evaporation of band transcriptions of art music in favor of manufactured/nearly unlistenable/completely predictable "band pieces".

Amen. It's a sad fact that most younger musicians will NEVER play even one of the transcriptions that are listed. I find that university/college tubists have to find a community band with an old-school director to have the pleasure of playing these pieces.

I have the Foundation book, perhaps I'll get the complete method one day. I really like Mr. Bell's instructions for each lesson, certainly keeps things to the point.
