I used a Conn Helleberg on my 2Xjs, and it seemed to work well for me, but I like a little larger mouthpiece. My 22J came with a Conn 2 that was supplied with the horn when it was first sold in 1934. You could try a Conn 2 or Helleberg 7B. I find them too small to be comfortable, but they might work for you.

The other thing to note is that these horns were designed to be used with a single tuning bit. These are exactly the same as Conn standard sousaphone bits. If you're not using a bit I suggest trying one. I find the response a little better when a bit is used.

I really like my Wick 1 for my Besson: really deep helleberg style cup, big broad tone, great intonation and flexibility with a more Bachish rim. I don't care for the flatter rim and sharp inner edge of a traditional Helleberg.
