Does anyone know anything, have any information about this particular old Conn Eb tuba? Have you ever had/played one?
I am not interested in buying it...I have one almost exactly like it in storage. The only real difference is the finish. It isn't in playing condition, but it has a very comfortable playing position.

You'll notice that I have not bid on it! It reminds me too much of the old Holton that's been exhiled to my fish pond! That double-crook main tuning slide looks more like the Holton. I don't quite understand the 'rash' on the back bow. I'll bet it needs a valve job big time.Ace wrote:That tuba looks as if it was fished out of a swamp.
All you repairmen out there-------what are the chances for making this monstrosity beautiful and playable? And, at what cost?

unfortunately, I spend alot of time fixing horns that look worse than that...
aside from the valves possibly needing a replate...
we don't have plating facilities... so it wouldn't be looking like a Dan Oberloh overhaul and replate in satin silver job but it would play rather nicely and would look decent enough (though on close inspection it would be clear that it had been worked on... especially around the bow...).
Probably be $400 work though...
our shop wouldn't buy it though... no market here to sell it... probably wouldn't even cover costs to ebay it...
If someone came in with it, it would probably be a good deal, but we wouldn't assume that much in risk for an Eb tuba... we already have 4 that nobody look at... right next to our selection of Bb french horns...
