Burning River Brass

Post by David Zerkel »

Mad Props to Matt Gaunt and the Burning River Brass! They performed a stellar concert in Athens last night. If you have the chance to see this group in person, don't pass on the opportunity.

It was nice to hear Matt play his Getzen so beautifully. I've been flirting with the idea of downsizing and his playing did nothing to dissuade me from that idea. He covered the entire range of colors on the G50 and put out an admirable sound, both in quantity and especially quality! Hmm.....

Again, Bravo to Matt and the rest of the group for an outstanding performance!

I heartily second DZ's compliment! Outstanding musical playing all around, in a wide variety of styles, and covering a huge spectrum of musical colors with only the brass family of instruments! Matt sounded incredible, and Rebecca did an outstanding job of doubling on euphonium. Can't wait until I get to hear them again!!!!

Thanks David and Cale for the kind remarks. It was great to finally meet DZ, and a pleasure to hang with "the crew" after the concert. Was a pleasure to play in such a great hall, and spend time with such warm and fun people!

Also thanks for the kind comments on the Getzen - I think I may finally stick with a CC tuba for a change (gasp!). To answer Mike's question - I played the "other" one (one I owned years ago that made it's way back to me), but really enjoy both "mine" and "mike's" equally...

Thanks again for the kind words, and hope all is well down in Athens - thanks again to all for coming and for the great hang afterwards!!!!!!
