I personally don't like Leonard Bernstein's solo stuff. His songs (like the ones sung in "West Side Story" and, my favorite, "I Hate Music!") are great. He wrote some wonderful tuba parts in in orchestral works!

The Bernstein is a great little piece, but not ideal for an audition...

Try the Hindemith Sonata.
