When I was younger we used to brag that our instrumental music program was the finest in the world. And it probably was... then. Some school districts were better than others. I started in one school district in which instrumental music was a graduated thing. Flutophones in third grade. Everyone got to study the violin in fourth grade. And then the band and orchestra instruction commenced in fifth grade (those who stuck to the violin got a headstart!) Unfortunately, I left that district after the third grade. We had instrumental music. It was a quality program, but it was mostly after school. Today, some school districts around here don't have any musical instruction (of any kind) until the sixth or seventh grade! My old junior college dropped its band and music major program. Music is now seen only as entertainment, not enrichment.

How are you trying to use it?

To start a quote, just click the "Quote" button, then paste your quotation, then click "Quote" again.

Alternatively, you can manually enter the start of a quote as {quote="name"} and end it with {/quote}. I've used curly braces rather than square brackets to be able to display the tags here, but you'd use the square brackets.

Also, under your profile, you might not have 'always allow BBCode' selected. To check, click on profile at top of page and look at the options you have selected.

It shouldn't matter what type computer you use - Apple or PC.

I just interviewed with a district that starts in either the seventh or eighth grade, depending on alternating years. I did the mandatory violin and recorder thing in fourth grade, and started tuba (3/4 BBb) in 5th grade. And I am not thaaat old. Really.

FWIW, I think much of it is regional. I grew up in the shadow of New York City but now currently live in a landlocked southern state (name withheld). I understand that the school programs in Texas for the most part are still outstanding. Perhaps I will think about relocating there when my wife's schooling is complete.

I guess you could call me modern , seeing im one of the youngest if not the youngest on tubenet (....not to mention Blokes kids that get on and post sensless things :P)...

We all had to do the music thing in elementary (singing mostly, learning the "ti-ti's" and the "ta's"), not sure if we started recorders right away or at about grade 2. We did that and those mini Xylophones whatever they were until grade 5, then it was back to recorder and rhythms.....grade six was instrumental band.

Special Education does not exist as it does here. People who are different are usually treated as oddities. It doesn't matter if it's mental or physical disability. My Vietnamese girlfriend is physically disabled, due to illness. Even though her brain was still sharp as a tack, she was medically retired at the age of 26 (in Vietnam). She still has so much to give. The U.S. really shines with the opportunities we give the handicapped.
