YEB 631S

Post by MaryAnn »

Is this an ergonomic copy of a Besson? (i.e., same wrap/layout)

Yes, and Yammy has a BBb to match.

Mary Ann:

It looks like the 632S is a newer version with the 19" bell. Matt also has a used 631S on the used tubas page. That one has a 17.5" bell. It has been there for a few months now.

631 - 17.5" bell
632 - 19" bell
More indications of Yammy copying Besson.
BTW, I believe the BBb shares the same primary valve block, with only the 4th valve larger bore on the BBb:

Thanks. I already know my arms are not long enough to reach the Besson, so it's not worth plane fare to try the Yam.

Hey, Belltrouble - With Yammy, you can't go on numbers alone. Look at the letters to see which instrument it is. For BBb, the numbers will start YBB, and for Eb, the numbers will start YEB.

If you know that your arms aren't long enough for the 4th on a Besson, I can GUARANTEE they won't reach it on a Yamaha 631/632....that was my only complaint about the Yamaha was the wrap on the 4th puts the valve in an awkward position.

My Miraphone 1261 is closer to the Yamaha in sound and feel, but has a very comfortable 4th valve.....it's also larger in bore than all of the other 3+1 EEb's and I like that a lot!!!

And then there's me: I simply gave up anything below lowest E as being unnecessary, bought a 3-valve comp that has absolutely perfect intonation all the way across the range. Oh, yeah, my pinky being @ 3 cm shorter than my other fingers may have had something to do with it, also.
