Help and advice please

Hello guys, I was just curious about what polishing cloth to use for my 842S. One cloth I received in the care kit says For lacquered horns on it....but dont all horns generally have a lacquer coating on top the Silver plating anyway? The other cloth specifically sent to me appears to say DO NOT USE ON LACQUER finish so I do not know which way to go.... any PROPER advice would be appreciated...


P.S o and does anyone know how to properly remove the water resevoir AKA "spit Catcher" on this particular model?

I've heard that very few silver horns have a coating of lacquer on top of the silver. I doubt that particular model would have a coat of laquer on it.

ok thanks alot for the suggestions but what I would really like to know is what kind of cloth i need for wiping because some say for lacquer finish, and im assuming theres a lacquer coat on the horn. I would first look at the dealer for some cloths because....well theyre free for me .........and can I use the polish cloths for wiping if I need to?...once again the one cloth sent to me says NOT FOR lacquered horns......so im assuming i shouldnt use it.\



o ya and anything on that dang water resevoir, its bugging me.

How interesting, the retarded repairman figured there was a lacquer coat on the euph......................I guess he doesnt like illiterate people like me. I just don't want to mess up the horn in any way using the wrong cloth.

No..silver plated horns are not generally and should never be lacquered because they will tarnish beneath the lacquer and then the tarnish cannot be cleaned without removing the lacquer first. I have seen some older silver plated horns that people have lacquered and they always end up looking like c**p.

Hi Xtreme,

Congrats on your new 842. I'm drooling.

Like others have stated, there is no lacquer coating over your silver plate. I would only polish your horn very infrequently. I polish mine about every 6 months or so. Each time you polish silver, a little of the silver plate is removed so don't over do it. My euph is 15 years old (want to trade?) and still looks good.

For a polishing cloth, I use one of those micro-fibre cloths mentioned above. But any soft cloth will work to remove your finger prints and oil from your hands.

As for the 'drool drainer' beneath your valves... place the horn face down on your bed, grip the the trough that's under the valves with your thumb and forefinger and slide it to the left (toward the bell) about 1/2 inch. It should pop loose and then you can drop it straight down.

I'd like to second the recommendation about using silver polish (in the treated cloths or some other means) rather infrequently. If you put your horn away it is case when you aren't using it, I'd be shocked if it got tarnished enough to need polishing within one year.

I'm sure these Microfiber towels are great, but just a plain old clean cotton T-shirt works great for routine removal of fingerprints.

Ok guys thats great, as you can tell i wanted to be 110% sure before I tried anything. Sorry Rick, wasnt a fan of the 642 as much as this baby but keep drooling, as long as you have a reservoir Thanks :D
