harold - you beat me to it on #1. Add: "and so I am fantasizing about owning one of each."
"What horn should I buy?" usually means is there anything on WWBW, 1800USA or Sam Ash I can just order and get a perfect instrument for no money.
"What mouthpiece should I buy?" usually means the same thing, along with the fact that noone has taught a proper embouchure. (Although I did, personally, ask a variant of that question when I purchased my Besson, as at the time I did not know if any other company besides Wick actually still made small shank mouthpieces!)

An excellent reply to the question, "What is my X tuba worth?" which means, "I think I can sell this old corroded piece of low brass for enough that it will be like winning the lottery."bloke wrote:Who cares?
According to http://www.ebay.com,
*A three-valve tuba is only worth $250 whereas a four-valve tuba is worth over $2000.

This is simply not always true. Practice is not always an option when I am posting on TubeNet. It is also quite possible that one may be posting when they are taking a needed break from practice.IkeH wrote:Without even posting - reading this forum means "I'd rather do this than practice."

It was the parking lot at Alamo Heights High School (where we rehearsed) if you must know, and then we realized we were hungry and it became the parking lot of the 410 Diner (after a late supper). Those were good conversations and I miss them.bloke wrote:a lot like hanging out in the alley behind the house over in Arlen, TX...TubaRay and Rick Denney.![]()

For me it was the "guy's house." After my divorce from my 1st wife luck had it that a couple of guys from high school with another couple of guys rented a house a couple of blocks away from my house. By the time you got friends of friends over for the game, it was quite the get together. Just throw a couple of dollars on the counter by the fridge as your pitch in to the kitty. Ironically, about the same time I got engaged to my current wife, one by one the guys started moving out for the same reason. It was a great couple of years!

When I moved from Dallas to Virginia, I was waiting for my new house to be built and rented a room at a boarding house.iiipopes wrote:For me it was the "guy's house." Well, it seemed like a good idea at the time.
It turned out to be a halfway house for divorced men. Every time I seemed to hang around with nothing to do, I ended up hearing bitter recountings of past misanthropisms.
I knew I was in trouble when the owner told me that the previous renter "didn't resonate with the harmony of the house".
"Didn't pay his rent on time, eh?" I asked.
"Not after the first month."
I said, "I'll make you a deal. I'll pay my rent the week before it's due every month, and you put a good lock on the door to my room. Does that resonate with the harmony of the house?"
I didn't do much tuba playing for that five months.
