Needing Help In the Stands...

Two Questions:
#1. I'd like to get some hip-hop/ contemporary tuba band tunes for the stands..perhaps even in coporate the entire lowbrass.. where would i get such music? can anyone give me some links or contacts?

#2. My tuba section is pretty decent size (9 or 10) but I worry that we still wont produce a big meaty sound, simply because most of the players cannot utalize the air they have properly through thier horn.. Would the section sound bigger if we aligned vertically along the band (two seperate lines, on each side of the band)?

Sousa section of 9 or 10!!! That's huge! The largest sousa section I ever marched with was 5.

I would stay in a line, it is more traditional and it promotes section blend and stability. It is very important that the bass line is togeather, and sometimes I worry if a large space between groups of players may cause phasing problems. Then again, I have seen some great marching bands play with their sousas on the sides. My alma mater has always had the sousas in a row the back, then again, we would get pelted with various objects from fans (fellow CHS students) who didn't like that their view was blocked.

Write out the music. It's not hard and the most difficult thing you'll get is splitting a three part harmony or something.

The largest sousa section I had was 3! One year I was all by myself and had to blow the snot out of my sousa to make up for it. In the recordings, all you heard was me and the trumpets anyways

Our tuba section in marching band (30 some odd years ago...) would play classic bagbipe music. Several players playing the Drone parts and 1 or 2 players on the Chanter line. The audience got a big kick out of it. They had several tunes memorized. Since the drones are always on the same notes, each player would learn 1 or 2 chanter lines and they would take turns.
