Plastic rims

OK,

So I'm looking around for a new mouthpiece. I have a slight irritation to silver plating (nothing huge, but still an irritation). I'm looking for a remedy for this. I know about gold plating and stainless steel. I was looking into plastic rims. Here's what I thought of as my options...

1. PT with plastic rim
2. Kelly
3. Getting a Doug Elliott / having him thread a plastic rim on one of mine.
4. Josef Klier (although I don't do German very well and have trouble navigating his site)

Are there any that I'm missing? Sorry about the directness of this post, but I'm trying to get to the bottom of this soon.

Any help is appreciated.

Well what are you playing on now? You could go for the gold plated version, or send it get plated. You've pretty much have all of the options. The Elliot mouthpieces take a while to get, last I checked. When I checked, they were taking about a year to get to people from when they were ordered!

Badger State still sells the DEG 'Astro Cup' mouthpiece. It's a Nylon cup with a silver-plated brass screw-in stem. I hadn't seen these things in a while but they are listed in my latest Badger State catalog.

Stainless steel is also supposed to be non-alergenic. I have to try one out soon.

Doug Elliot made me a special rim out of white plastic (delrin??) which I was able to shape myself, using sandpaper and steel wool. I love it.

You might also want to look into a Loud mouthpiece. You can mix and match cups and rims to get one that works for you and they are stainless steel. Now, if we could just convince Joe Murphy to start also making Lexan rims for cold weather use....

I've been using a Lexan rim on my Doug Elliott for some time now. Very comfortable.

I bought a stainless mouthpiece just for the same reason you have expressed !! An allergic reaction to the silver . The stainless has solved 98% of that problem . The rest of what I still have I just live with . My allergy was a little more severe then yours .
I will not say which I have so as not to show favoritism . I ordered two different ones from each of the two major stainless maunfacters and played them all for two weeks . I kept the one I like the most and sent the others back.

I use a Kelly 18 for outdoors with a souzy. My son is also hypersensitive/allergic to metal. I got him a DEG nylon cup. It's roughly similar to but a little shallower than an 18, but depending on the day it was cut, it could be a tad larger in diameter of the cup. Regardless of how you decide, for just @$30, sometimes including shipping, it's just so inexpensive that, if nothing else, everyone should have a Kelly as a spare to their primary mouthpiece.

Thanks for all of the help. I have a few more stainless options to try first before I drop the cash to gold-plate or re-thread.

If anyone has anything else, please let me know.
