Search for History/Literature Resources

Post by notlap »

Hello Everyone,

I am looking for any articles or other resources on the following topics:
-Design improvements on the tuba in the 20th century
-An overview of the history of solo literature for the tuba
-An overview of brass mouthpiece design: history, use, functional differences.

I realize all of the wonderful standard resources (Bevan, Bates, Phillips, New Grove, etc.) contain bits and pieces of this information tied with other topics, but I'm looking for resources more on the specific subjects listed. To my knowledge, the tuba source book while providing excellent annotations for literature, didn't provide a summary or overview.

I could write on these topics with out articles (as I'm sure many of us could) but I'm looking to add a little more scholarship.

The Fundamentals of Musical Acoustics by Arthur Benade.

The Physics of Musical Instruments by Fletcher and Rossing.

Not much history, but certainly good stuff on design issues.
