Best 5/4 CC tubas out there

If you like it and get what you want out of it, then for you the MW 2155 is the best 5/4 horn.

Other manufacturers who have their enthusiasts: B&S & all their cousins; Alexander; Gronitz; Cerveny; Rudy Meinl; Miraphone; Yammy; Kalison; Nirschel; a "Monster" @1915 BBb York in horrible shape just went for @$2500 on eBay; others. In other words, there are literally tons of them out there.

Just because the e-belch York went for $2500 doesn't mean it's a good horn, it means somebody thinks it might be a good horn.

It looked like a project to me; Dave Oberloh says he is backlogged, Bloke and Lee Stofer, two other capable repairmen on this board, are in the process or just finished moving and who else is close enough that can do the job?

I'm glad the original poster likes his 2155. I believe that several German made piston horns are comparable, with some exception. Like someone else said, it's a personal choice. Enjoy the tuba you have.

I was wondering to see what others thought about what they thought was some of the best 5/4 CC horns?

A) The horn they are already playing.
B) The horn they are trying to sell (at least until it is sold).
C) The horn they want to buy.

IMO, the best 5/4 tuba would be a 5/4 Eb model -- which would have (as we have all heard multiple times) the broadest possible range of application of any tuba available.

Just a little shift in viewpoint ....

Re the York: yes, it was probably great once, it isn't now, but it probably will be again. Oh, yeah, I forgot HB and (how could I?!) Martin and Holton in my first listings, and a lot of them need help as well. But the general question was who makes (and with artistic license I expanded that to "have made" as so many are still thankfully playable, not as many as should be, but still...) good 5/4 horns. The answer is about everybody, if you have the vision, the time, the money and the desire.
