Walter Hilgers

Post by ZNC Dandy »

I can't believe it. I can't believe I haven't listened to him before. What an amazing player. He has the ideal sound i've had in my head all these years. He has quite possibly the cleanest largest tuba sound i've ever heard. I haven't heard any of his orchestral playing, and would very much like to do so. I know he plays in The Vienna Phil now, but dpes anyone have any recommended recordings wher I can hear him? I have some of the German Brass CD's and they blow my mind. Especially the Bach 2000 CD with the Toccata and Fugue, during which Mr. Hilgers and the bass trombonist destroyed my speakers. Any recording recommendatioons are very very much appreciated. Been doing this for years, and finally found my ideal sound. Its great, i'm re-invigorated, and look foprward to hearing more!

Many Thanks

I acquired a copy of the NDR/Wand Bruckner 8 live from Lubeck today, all I can say is WOW. Largest cleanest tuba sound I have ever heard. Its really exciting to find your ideal sound out there. This recording is amazing. The revereb in the cathedral is unreal. I am re addicted to the tuba! Any more recommendations guys? Thanks for the ones so far.

I just listened to some short sound clips of the Wand/NDR Bruckner 8. I was impressed, particularly by the bass trombone work. Whoa, the guy is a MONSTER player. (Clip 4)
