I saw this program last night too! Yes, the Shostie 8 was wonderful. Some great low brass playing... very powerful, yet tasteful. Chris had a real nice "wall of sound." You know what kind of horn he was playing? Yorkbrunner?

Anyways, regarding the "brass sound" I really liked the sound they got. I would definitely not say it is the LOUDEST low brass sound I have heard, but that is probably a good thing. I hate it when brass players try to "lay waste" to an orchestra.

I do know of many conductors who would never have allowed that section to do what they did, and for that I join you in respecting their conductor. He was very musical, really showed the orchestra his interpretation of the music - not just a "showman" like many, many conductors are.
