By chance, I was walking past Avery Fisher's artist entrance last night and ran into Joe Alessi. He said that they had to show to play the National Anthem. All in all, still an easy paycheck last night.Matt Good wrote:Now...this is my kind of music.![]()

When this thread started I was going to take bets on there being an encore with tuba in it (this happens every once in a while - I've even heard about a tuba player in a major orchestra who had to go on a long tour just to play one encore) Having to commute to work only to play the Banner is an orchestral tuba player's bitter sweet reality. I wonder if they had to show up to rehearsal for ittubapress wrote:

A question for anyone interested: What is the longest period of time you've heard of a tuba player being off while the rest of the orchestra is working? (I've heard one orchestra had 6 weeks in a row in the middle of the season with no tuba)
