I'm not in the market for an 'F' tuba, but the York 'F' tuba at BB looks interesting. I'm suprised no one has picked it up, what with all the banter about 'F' tubas and Yorks...
Does anyone know the story behind it, and who did the cutting...er...I mean...modifications ? I'm assuming it started life as an Eb.
I think that MIGHT be a Dillon conversion, though I may be wrong. The finger buttons are my main clue, plus I seem to remember playing a horn that looked just like this ( unless that was Frank Ortega's Martin? Hmmm.... I'm confused).
That particular horn is a really nice playing F. It reminds me a lot of the small Yamaha F tubas actually with its ease in the low register and compact sound. I know that Mr. Fedderly used this particular instrument with the Baltimore Symphony for a while as well.
If you're in the market for smaller F that plays great, this horn is a winner!
